The Global Impact Coalition (GIC) and the Scope 3 Peer Group have joined forces to accelerate action to reduce emissions embedded across global chemical value chains and give purchasers access to low-carbon chemical products.

Chemicals are found in over 95% of manufactured products and account for around 5% of global GHG emissions. As such, the sector is key to unlocking broader Scope 3 action. But transforming this complex industry requires collaboration that goes beyond the capabilities of any one company or industry.  That’s why the GIC and Scope 3 Peer Group are partnering—to foster stronger cross-value chain collaboration and accelerate the availability of low-carbon chemicals.

The Scope 3 Peer Group launched the Innovation for Impact group earlier this year, identifying access to low-carbon chemicals as one of the top three priorities.  This focused interest is driving our collaboration, bringing together the Scope 3 Peer Group’s network of practitioners with GIC’s project-driven, solution-oriented approach to further accelerate the decarbonization of products from the chemical industry.

The GIC is a unique accelerator platform bringing together industry leaders on tangible projects to advance emissions reductions and circularity across the chemical value chain. Incubated at the World Economic Forum, GIC is an independent nonprofit guided by C-suite executives from some of the world’s largest chemical and recycling companies. Through its collaborative model, GIC convenes members and value chain partners around focused projects—from scaling sustainable methanol to capturing valuable carbon in municipal solid waste and advancing sustainable biomass sourcing.

The Scope 3 Peer Group is a cross-industry, global collective of thousands of practitioners working on reducing the GHG impact of their supplier base. In a fast-evolving and often confusing space, the Scope 3 Peer Group provides a trusted community to benchmark and share approaches, identify credible and relevant emerging tools and solutions, and channel action towards high-impact initiatives.
